Secrets of the public relations industry will be spilled next month as journalists and PR consultants Pete and Louisa Davison show Wiltshire business people how to get the media talking about them.

In February Pete and Louisa, who run Marlborough-based PR and marketing company Secret Agent Marketing, published a guide called How to Write a Press Release to help local business people gain media exposure.

The free guide was so popular that the pair have decided to offer their expertise as a day-long course, during which delegates will learn how to spot newsworthy stories within their organisations and produce press releases and photographs that journalists will want to use.

Pete, who started his own career as a journalist with the Marlborough Times in 1992, and continues to write about businesses for a range of local and national publications, said: “How to Write a Press Release has received some excellent feedback, and I’m thrilled that Wiltshire business people have seen their stories in print after following our free guide.

“Now we’re offering ten businesses the chance to join us for a day-long master-class. Delegates will learn the tricks of the trade and leave the session with a press release and photograph relating to their own business, which local journalists will be delighted to receive.”

Louisa, who has 14 years experience in PR and marketing, said: “The session is aimed at business owners with a product or service to promote, or employees within an organisation whose role is, or includes, the marketing of the business.

“And a creative course needs an inspirational venue, so instead of a nondescript conference room we’ll be using Rabley Drawing Centre, where delegates will be surrounded by works of contemporary art and the beautiful countryside of the Marlborough Downs.”

The course will be held on Tuesday, April 17 from 10am to 4pm. Attendance costs £199, which includes a home-cooked lunch.

“Delegates will learn something really valuable for their business and it will feel like a day out too,” said Louisa.
